Students would study a variety of African folk tales and rewrite them into play form. They would incorporate art forms, artifacts and design elements native to the region in which they take place. Students would then design and create rod puppets for the performance of their writings. The project includes a performance by Open Hand Theater and two workshops with an Open Hand artist in residence. The students will put on a performance for the entire school. The Foundation Grant Committee has chosen this grant to be designated as the Marilyn Jones Life and Learning Through Arts Grant. (View project video)
