For artists, the desire to create and make doesn’t change even though we are in the fiercest of changing times. My art students have been studying their craft for a few years at Henninger and now due to Covid and Covid scheduling, they have no art class, no art space, no art materials, and no art community that they have loved in high school. They reached out to me to ask questions, ask for help with portfolios and just connect. I felt that we couldn’t let them just have nothing for a year- or try to get into college with a whole year of art class missing. Their portfolios were in process, their skill and development was in process. They were reaching out looking for that connection with me, with being creative, being encouraged to be creative. I know Covid changed a lot of good things but I felt I had an idea that may solve this problem. So many students feel disconnected due to Covid, social distancing, etc and I just couldn’t bear these artists not making or creating for a semester a year.
