Back in March, the SCSD Educational Foundation decided to postpone its 17th Annual Recognition Fundraising Breakfast at the outset of the COVID 19 pandemic. The breakfast fundraiser was rescheduled for Saturday, September 26th. At the time, we were optimistic that we would be able to host the event at the Holiday Inn Liverpool. Unfortunately, we were not be able to host a live event at the hotel as we had hoped. But in partnership with WCNY, we were able to host the event on September 26th in a completely new and creative format! We hosted the event as a one-hour online Virtual Watch Party preceded by a televised preview introduction on WCNY-TV at 9:30 AM
Our Virtual Recognition Breakfast Watch Party was streamed on OVEE. OVEE stands for “Online Viewing and Engagement Experience” and WCNY offered us this exciting new shared media viewing experience – a powerful new way to connect and engage with audiences. It brought together our sponsors, School District teachers and administrators and community guests to watch streaming media and chat live in a virtual theater.

The event featured many of our long-standing presentations, including our venerable Master of Ceremonies, Dan Cummings from NewsChannel 9, Mayor Ben Walsh, SCSD Superintendent Jaime Alicea, and of course our five District Educator of the Year Award winners and our two Recognition Award winners.

Since it was founded in 2003, the Syracuse City School District Educational Foundation has hosted an Annual Recognition Breakfast fundraiser.
The funds raised by the Annual Recognition Breakfast support the mission of the Educational Foundation, which is to enhance the quality of life and education of children in the Syracuse City Schools. Donations to this event support supplemental educational grants for teachers.
During these challenging times for students, teachers, parents, and school administrators, funds raised by the Educational Foundation are critical to the education in Syracuse City Schools. We are hoping to expand this year’s application opportunities to provide the supplies, technology, and services for teachers and students who are learning in schools and remotely.
In the past 17 years, the Educational Foundation has distributed more than $875,000 in grants for education projects throughout the district.
We thank all of our friends and supporters for your understanding during these unsettled and unpredictable times and we look forward to 2021 in hopes that we can return to hosting our breakfast and golf tournament as live programming.
