We are planning to continue the yoga and mindfulness program we began last year at McKinley-Brighton by having a certified children’s yoga instructor lead a group of 3rd graders, comprised of students from special education and regular education classes, though a series of 6 yoga and mindfulness sessions. We propose to use a set of children’s literature to focus on a weekly theme (e.g. breathing, self-control). The books will be read and shared in the classrooms, featured during the yoga sessions and then given to each student to bring home to keep in their home’s library as a catalyst to family engagement and discussion about the mindfulness and yoga activities at school.
